If you have the Oculus Rift or HTC Vive, you can now play GTA 5 in a virtual reality setting. Surround yourself with the game today.
The GTA 5 virtual reality mod was not created by Rockstar games and is not affiliated with the company in any way whatsoever. It is a private software developed by Joseph Delgado, a GTA enthusiast who wanted to raise the game’s already high standards a notch higher.
The mod is available for download free of charge on grandtheftvr.com. However, if you wish to support the project, you can donate money online via PayPal. Make sure to download the latest version i.e. GTAVR v0.4.5 beta. Unfortunately, the mod is only for PC (64-bit version) and is not available on Xbox or Play station.
The installation bit is quite simple if you have all the necessary software. The first of which is, of course, a VR software or system like the Oculus Rift for example. In the case of Oculus, you need Oculus runtime 0.8. The mod also works on an HTC Vive platform.
Before installing the mod, you need to first install ScriptHookV, SteamVR, and VorpX. Turn off MSAA from the game’s graphics menu to improve functionality. Turn off head tracking and set the pixel ratio to 1:1. Set zoom to the same ratio as well before you begin playing to eliminate visual errors.
The VR mod has had a good reception across the country and has very good reviews across the borders too. It most definitely ranks high on the list of best GTA mods released so far.
Playing Grand Theft Auto 5 in VR is mind-blowing. Driving a vehicle especially a motorcycle via digital steering is quite the experience (an Xbox controller is required for digital steering). Vehicle stunts really get you feeling the adrenaline rush. In a nutshell, VR for GTA is truly amazing. The mod has enabled lovers of the game to get a front row seat to the action.
However, the mod does have a few shortcomings. The developer has done an exceptional job so far but there is only so much he can do. The VR mod has a number of bugs.
Sometimes, the game remains stuck in free-aim mode even after unloading the mod. This glitch then interferes with player directions. Another common issue is strange head positions after getting into vehicles. To avoid the latter case, you should not press any button while getting into a car.
Another side effect of the modification is that the game crashes quite often. It is important to ensure that your drivers are up to date before installation to minimize the chances of the errors mentioned above occurring.
GTA games have always been brutal; however, the mod takes the brutality to a whole new level. The developer actually said his mouth dropped the first time he shot someone in the game. Many gamers have also said that they found the experience to be nerve-wracking and too violent for comfort.
Virtual Reality is undoubtedly the future of the gaming industry with many upcoming games employing the technology in their gameplay. Although Rockstar is yet to consider the idea, it shouldn’t be too long before they follow suit.
