About GTA 4
Plot
The GTA 4 theme focuses on Niko Belic, a protagonist from a foreign country who comes to Liberty City to follow the American Dream. Belic traveled to the city after an invite from his cousin Roman. Before his arrival, Belic is under the illusion that Roman is filthy rich and living a good life. The truth, however, is that Roman is struggling to make ends meet and is deep in debt. He is living in a deplorable condition and doesn’t even own a mansion as he made Belic believe.
Belic is also in the city to find a man he accuses of betraying his unit in the battlefield, a decade and a half ago.
Characters
GTA 4 has an intricate plot and a long list of characters. It is the first game in the GTA series that give a player the freedom to change the plot by making individual choices, each with a different outcome. This portrays Belic as a character that is constantly followed by his past actions. According to him, starting all over again is a fallacy, and so he has to wake with a new baggage day in and day out.
Other notable characters in GTA 4 include Berni Crane, Kate McReary, Little Jacob and Brucie Kibbutz, all positive minded individuals who try to encourage Belic to be optimistic. And then there is Phil Bell, Dwayne Forge, Gerald McReary, Derrick McReary and Patrick McReary. These characters, on the other hand, are pessimist and Belic seems to connect with them because he feels that they share the same instincts and outlook toward life.
Belic doesn’t like corrupt characters because of their immorality and greed. These include Vladimir Glebov, Jimmy Pegorino, Playboy X, Ray Bulgarian and Elizabeta Torres.
Setting
GTA 4 happens in 2008 in the boroughs of New York City. The three isles in the game represent Liberty, Roosevelt and Randall’s Island. At the early stages, the player cannot access bridges due to a terrorist threat. The blockades, however, are removed as GTA 4’s storyline takes shape, enabling the player to go across the islands.
